Ready to respond sessions
“One Session, Real Change”.
Our Single Session Parent-Only Interventions for Eating Disorders are focused, one-off meetings designed to give parents the right guidance at the right time in order to navigate your next steps with confidence.
During your 60 minute session, you’ll receive diagnostic clarification (where possible), practical guidance, and leave with a clear action plan on what to do next.
And the best part - no waiting periods. No referrals. Just help when you need it.
These sessions are grounded in research showing that even a single, well-structured intervention can significantly boost parental confidence, reduce feelings of helplessness, improve recovery support at home and reduce key eating disorder behaviours.
Who would benefit?
These sessions are best suited for parents and caregivers who:
Are caring for an adolescent or young person (between 10 to 21 years of age) who is displaying difficulties with their eating, body image or exercise. Examples may include:
Your young person’s eating or exercise behaviours have changed recently and you’re not sure how to approach it or talk to them about it;
Your young person is restricting their food intake or being very selective with food choices and it is causing you concern;
Your instinct is telling you something is wrong, but you’re not sure what to do next (hint - trust your instinct, if you are concerned then so are we);
Your young person has a suspected eating disorder, or is displaying disordered eating behaviours (e.g., restricted volume of food intake, binge eating, compensatory behaviours - e.g., self-induced vomiting) and you need some guidance on the next steps and how to support their recovery;
You are on a waiting list or have yet to commence treatment, and would like some help and strategies to use in the interim.
These sessions are NOT SUITABLE for parents and caregivers where:
Hospitalisation or urgent medical care is required
Their child is experiencing or displaying medical instability (e.g., very low weight, rapid weight loss, compromised vital signs)
There is an imminent risk of suicide or self-harm
These sessions are not a replacement for comprehensive ongoing treatment.
What to Expect?
Sessions will be facilitated by Lachlan Morrish, one of our experienced clinical psychologists and eating disorder credentialed mental health clinician.
The session will run for 60 minutes online via zoom.
Only parents / caregivers attend these sessions. The child / client does not attend.
Parents and/or caregivers will complete a pre session online questionnaire to identify main problem (s)/reasons for seeking support to guide the focus of the session.
The session will involve a combination of further assessment of key problem (s) (identified in the pre session questionnaire), education, learning evidence based skills, and receiving resources to support your child towards recovery.
You will be provided with a written summary of the session, information and resources for practical strategies and support services.
